“That’s what it’s all about”
As a team, we’ve had many opportunities to work on Internet marketing ideas. We’ve literally gone online for days researching companies and the types of marketing they offered. We’ve spent thousands of dollars to come up with accurate measures to judge which campaigns were actually converting prospects into customers.
In the end, and after much testing, we came to an interesting conclusion: the thing that matters most in web marketing usually boils down to - how many qualified, targeted “click-thrus” a client can get on their site.
“Click-thrus” are the main thing to focus on when considering the broad concept of “web-marketing.” For us, it has been the most accurate measure of the quality of any type of marketing we offered, - whether it was banner ads, email campaigns, “pop-unders”, search-engine, “pay-per-click”, or any other type of advertising.
“Click-thrus” represent a web-visitor who has been motivated to visit your site by clicking on an email or online advertisement of any type. It is the highest quality traffic you can have coming to your site.
Once you get this type of high quality traffic to your site, you can then focus on trying to convert your visitors to customers and sales. If you have a tracking method or software, you can then determine your conversion ratio. The conversion ratio will tell you how many visitors you will need to get to your site to convert ONE sale.
If you can figure out how many “click-thrus” it takes, you will know how much it costs to have a profitable site.
You will find many types of online opportunities. But when it comes down to it, exposure means nothing if you don’t generate “click-thrus” to your site.
- Email Marketing
- Search Engines
- Pay Per Click Search Engines
- Banner Ads
- “Pop-unders” / Guaranteed Visitors / Expired Domains
All… these traffic-sources have been around for a while now and are all heavily promoted forms of advertising. We believe web-visitors need to go to a site by CHOICE… and, if they do… the measurement will be “Click-thurs”. They are the soundest measure because you can usually figure out how those clicks relate to your sales.
That is why it is important to focus on how many “click-thrus” you can produce when creating, marketing and advertising your website.
So next time you consider any type of web marketing, try to get some indication of how many targeted “click-thrus” you can expect.
